- Helen Walsh, Preface, TOK Book 6
The stories and poetry in Book 6 offer a slew of different voices – rooted in the city you know, but always offering a different twist. Whether it’s the pleasure and pain of human interconnectedness or the complexity and inescapability of the mother-daughter relationship, these stories speak to the commonalities we share as human beings, while the story details remind us that those commonalities are differently shaped by our cultural backgrounds.
From a post-war Spadina Avenue to the charred remains of Queen Street West; from a Malton garden to Morningside Park; from a church pew to the TTC subway, TOK Book 6 will take you on a tour of your city that you won’t soon forget.
The TOK series is a result of Diaspora Dialogues’ annual mentoring and commissioning program, which commissions established writers to create original Toronto-set work, while mentoring emerging writers selected through an open call and juried process.
